【Cura Software】Latest 5.0 Beta: Automatic Line Width Conversion, 20% Reduction in Print Time
Reduce 3D printing time by 20%! The latest 5.0 beta version of Ultimaker Cura features a more powerful and practical system engine that automatically converts the width of the extruded filament from the nozzle. This groundbreaking advancement in 3D printing technology adapts to various model shapes and infill details! A link for free download and trial is included at the end of the article:
In previous Ultimaker Cura versions, the system used a consistent line width (the exact width depended on the nozzle diameter and the line width settings used). When slicing a file, if a section of the 3D print was one and a half lines thick, Ultimaker Cura would automatically generate two lines and leave a small gap in between. These very small detailed gaps, being smaller than the thickness of one line, would cause difficulties in print infill, ultimately leaving a small but noticeable gap between the two lines. The system would then generate diagonal lines to fill it, as shown in the figure:
(Left / Infill line width using Ultimaker Cura 4.13. Right / Infill line width using Ultimaker Cura 5.0 Beta.)
When filling small gaps, the 3D printer nozzle would produce slight shaking movements, leading to a lot of unnecessary vibration and noise.

In the Cura slicer preview mode, compared to Ultimaker Cura 4.13 (left image), Ultimaker Cura 5.0 Beta automatically adjusts the line width, improving different slicing effects:
The boat model below is sliced with a 0.1mm layer height and an AA 0.25mm nozzle. The grey parts of the boat are details too small to be sliced further. As shown in the figure, a 20% scaled boat can be sliced well. However, when the scale is reduced, some parts of the model cannot be 3D printed.

(Boat models sliced at 20%, 15%, and 10% scale in Ultimaker Cura version 4.13)
With Ultimaker Cura 5.0 Beta, line width can be automatically adjusted, allowing all paths to be sliced and 3D printed successfully even when scaled down to 15% and 10%.
