Tip: These steps apply to Ultimaker 2 GO, Ultimaker 2, and Ultimaker 2 Extended.

1. Remove your 3D printing filament

  • Go to MATERIAL > CHANGE to remove the filament. When the machine asks you to insert new filament, select CANCEL.
  • Manually move the extruder to the front of the Ultimaker 2 to help you with the next step.

2. Detach the Bowden tube

  • Remove the (blue or red) Bowden tube clip.
  • Press the white Bowden tube connector and pull out the Bowden tube.

3. Remove the extruder from the Ultimaker

  • Slightly tilt the sliders on the left and right sides of the X-axis to loosen the X-axis.
  • Slightly tilt the front and rear sliders of the Y-axis to also loosen the Y-axis.
  • Remove the extruder and both the X and Y axes from the Ultimaker.

4. Loosen the print head casing

  • Wrap some tape (any tape will do) around the extruder to ensure it doesn't fall apart.
  • Loosen the 4 screws on top. You will then see the extruder split into 2 parts: the casing and the hot end assembly.

5. Disassemble the hot end

  • Remove the 2 screws on both sides of the hot end to detach the fan bracket.
  • Loosen the two screws on the top aluminum plate, then the spring and PTFE coupler can be removed.

  • Using an Allen key, insert it into the hole of the hot end isolator and rotate it counter-clockwise to loosen the nozzle from the hot end isolator (the metal part shown in the image below). This way, the nozzle can be removed.

  • Next, loosen the retaining screw on top of the heating block and carefully pull out the PT100 B temperature sensor wire and the heating wire.

*Important: Do not pull the PT100 B temperature sensor wire too hard, as it can be damaged. If it's difficult to pull out, you can gently twist the cable and use some sewing machine oil or WD40 for assistance.

All parts within the entire print head assembly can be replaced following this procedure, including the PTFE coupler, PT100 B temperature sensor wire, nozzle, hot end, fan, etc.
