【3D Printing】Unboxing the Bambu Lab P2S AMS Combo!

Bambu Lab has given a comprehensive upgrade to its classic 3D printer, the P1S.
When the P1 series was first released, it was positioned between the entry-level A1 and the more advanced X1 Carbon.
With the H2D becoming Bambu Lab's high-end 3D printer, an upgrade for the mid-range models was a natural progression.

The Bambu Lab P2S AMS Combo is a four-color printing device that combines the numerous advantages of its sister products while maintaining an affordable price.
It features the X1's color touchscreen and the A1's replaceable nozzle—or, more accurately, an upgraded version of the H2's screen and nozzle.
Additionally, it boasts a better camera, a USB interface, an upgraded cooling system, AI monitoring functions, and comes standard with the new AMS 2 Pro.

Like the P1S, it has everything you need but omits some high-end features.
This printer still offers Bambu Lab's traditional 256 cubic millimeter print volume, but without lasers, dual nozzles, fancy shrouds, or radar, of course.
Most importantly, it doesn't need these features at all.

Unboxing
The Bambu Lab P2S kit includes everything needed to set up the printer, plus some extra parts and printer maintenance tools.
The P2S comes with several test models pre-installed in its memory, including a scraper that you can print and assemble using the parts provided in the toolkit.

If you need to use a USB drive for time-lapse videos, please note that it does not include a USB drive.
The package comes with a paper quick start guide and instructions on how to access the slicing software and mobile application.
A QR code is printed on the inside flap of the box, which can be scanned to watch an unboxing video.

New Design of the P2S
The most noticeable improvement on the P2S is the touchscreen, which is the same as on the high-end H2 series.
The P2S printhead also draws inspiration from the H2 series, using the same steel A1 nozzle – though not exactly an A1 nozzle.
This new nozzle looks very similar to the removable A1 nozzle, and it is also secured by a snap and magnets.

The P2 and H2 nozzles have higher flow rates to match their faster Core XY kinematics.
It's great to see the P2S adopt this nozzle, as it's easier to remove for troubleshooting or changing sizes.

The P2S also features a new active airflow system, addressing a common pain point for many: printing PLA with the chamber door open.
This airflow system directs cooler indoor air to the auxiliary cooling fan on the sidewall, reducing nozzle clogs or print overhang issues.
While the P2S doesn't have active heating, it relies on the heated bed to do all the heating.
To simplify operations, it closes the internal baffle and vents air only through the carbon filter out of the chamber.

The P2S also adds a USB interface, a small detail with significant implications.
With the USB interface, users can easily transfer files without needing a network connection, which was more cumbersome with the previous micro SD card.
Additionally, the P2S stores time-lapse videos on this interface.

The camera has also been upgraded to a 1080p high-frame-rate model, and combined with enhanced chamber lighting, image quality has significantly improved.
Furthermore, this camera is part of the new AI computer monitoring system, which ensures the installed print bed matches the slicer settings and monitors for nozzle blobs and filament tangles.

Nozzle pressure is measured by a vortex sensor, and the machine automatically adjusts the flow rate.
The flow rate is also supported by a new extrusion system, with a permanent magnet synchronous motor servo mechanism providing a maximum extrusion force of up to 8.5 kg, an increase of about 70% over the old system.
The printer also monitors system operation, detecting filament wear or clogs.
Combined with the tangle sensor in the filament hub, the P2S can effectively prevent print failures.

The rest of the printer is essentially the same: a 256 cubic millimeter print volume and a fast, high-precision motion system.
If you're new to Core XY, this motion system uses belt drives for synchronized movement of the X and Y axes, resulting in smoother and faster prints.
The printhead always stays at the top of the machine, while the print bed slowly lowers. Combined with input shaping for vibration reduction, the result is extremely smooth and high-quality prints.

The printer's highly sensitive auto-leveling system ensures a perfect first layer.
No Z-axis height adjustment is needed. After a few minutes of auto-calibration, the printer is ready to operate normally.

AMS 2 Pro
The P2S Combo comes standard with the new AMS 2 Pro, a four-color automatic material system.
This new AMS also doubles as a filament dryer, with an active ventilation design that maintains low humidity when the lid is closed.
As the dryer does not operate during printing, desiccant packets are still needed to prevent moisture.

The filament tubes of the AMS 2 Pro are now exposed, making maintenance easier.
This makes it easier to remove filament fragments that might break inside the unit.

Mid-Range Model Packed with the Latest Technology
Bambu Lab continuously innovates its Core XY printers to stay competitive in a challenging market.
Most impressively, Bambu has added so many new features to the P2S while keeping its price so close to the first-generation P1S.

It is an excellent choice for users looking to upgrade their 3D printing experience.
It is easy to set up and use, making it suitable as a first printer for beginners or as the tenth printer in a print farm.
