In a previous article, [3D Printing Application] Honey, I made the print transparent!, we introduced how to make items more transparent by applying AB glue. Today, we will share how to increase transparency by adjusting 3D printer parameters.
Machine used: Ultimaker2 3D printer
Nozzle diameter: 0.6mm (Olsson Block)
Layer height: 0.3mm
Wall thickness: 0.6mm (one perimeter)

Parameters affecting transparency include layer height, nozzle diameter, and wall thickness. The rounder the shape of each printed filament line, the less light refraction occurs, so higher layer height and larger nozzle diameter can improve transparency. The thicker the wall, the more outer perimeters are printed, leading to more light refraction and lower transparency. Therefore, thinner walls result in better transparency.
The image below shows the effect of different wall thicknesses:
Machine used: Ultimaker2 3D printer
Nozzle diameter: 0.4mm (Olsson Block)
Layer height: 0.2mm
Wall thickness: Left 0.4mm (one perimeter); Right 0.8mm (two perimeters)

The image above clearly illustrates the difference caused by wall thickness.
We hope this explanation and images help you better understand transparent 3D printing materials!
