【3D Printing News】SLS Hexagonal Rubik's Cube is super elastic, bounces back without deformation!
It's been a while since we've shared the internal appearance of a disassembled Sinterit Lisa 3D printer. This time, we're 3D printing an infinitely continuous 3D hexagonal structure. A manual press test showed it to be super elastic and Q-bouncy. How exactly is such a complex hollow structure achieved? Let's take a look together!

After opening, there will be two powder hoppers. After cleaning them with a vacuum cleaner, you can pour in the printing powder you want to use. This time, we are using Flexa Grey elastic powder, which has the soft and flexible characteristics of TPU, making it suitable for parts such as plugs, buffers, and gaskets. While both are TPU, the performance of products made with FDM fused deposition modeling and SLA photopolymerization differs due to their respective molding technologies. Among them, SLS is the closest to fabric or natural texture. (Further reading: Farewell My Concubine: The World's First 3D Printed Peking Opera Costume!)

The print platform on the right does not need to be filled with powder. When the machine is enclosed for 3D printing, powder will be progressively covered layer by layer from the left hopper. Once filled, simply follow the instructions on the Sinterit Lisa to start printing, and it will be completed automatically! After completion and opening, the 3D printing powder and the finished product will both be on the right print platform. The platform will push up the printed powder cake, which can then be scooped out as a whole with a dedicated scraper.

Next, you can manually break off large chunks of the solidified powder! After most of the loose powder is removed, the product shape gradually emerges. Because the soft material is elastic, pressing it while cleaning speeds up the internal cleaning process.

Finally, we use a brush and an air gun to clean off any residual powder. Because SLS technology uses laser melting instead of glue bonding, the finished product will not shed powder once cleaned.

The matte texture of the finished product makes this cube feel even softer. No matter how much it's abused, it springs back to its original shape, making it ideal for testing parts that undergo repetitive motion.
