【Christmas Special】Do You Want to Build a Snowman? Learn to Make a Chocolate "Olaf"!

3DMart wishes everyone a Merry Christmas! This year, let the cutest and most amusing chocolate "Olaf" from "Frozen 2" accompany you through Christmas. Using a FormBox vacuum former, it's super fast and easy, even without a silicone mold, making it perfect for both adults and children!

First, we modified Olaf's open-source file. In Ultimaker Cura, you can see that this Olaf doesn't have branch arms, a nose, or hair. These will be added after the chocolate body is complete.

This time, we used white Tough PLA and an Ultimaker 3D printer to create the model. After completion, the Olaf model is placed into the FormBox vacuum former. If you don't have a 3D printer, you can also hand-mold it with clay. For those with clumsy hands like me, a 3D printer is more suitable. The store also offers special bundles for the FormBox + 3D printer!

3D printing in food applications typically uses silicone to create customized mass-produced molds (further reading: "Playing" with Perfect Molds: Tech Pastry Artist Dinara Kasko). A quicker method is to use a vacuum former directly; with a gentle press, the mold is ready in seconds and can be demolded immediately, making it convenient and fast.

After the preparatory work is done, prepare the following materials: Olaf mold, two bars of white chocolate (you can also prepare one bar of dark chocolate for coloring), a bowl, and either a microwave or a double boiler for heating.

1. First, break the chocolate into pieces and put them in a bowl, then microwave for 1 minute (depending on your microwave's power) and stir until fully melted.

2. Pour the melted white chocolate into the Olaf mold until full, then place the filled mold in the refrigerator or at room temperature to cool.

3. Once cooled, invert the "Olaf" to remove it, and the white chocolate body is complete! Since the original FormBox transparent sheets are food-safe, they can be used to make molds for chocolates, cookies, and more. Even UK chocolate chains use them. (Further reading: Paul A. Young Chocolate Chain: How to Use Vacuum Molds!)

4. We repeat step 1 to melt the dark chocolate, then put it into a piping bag. Add eyes, nose, buttons, and arms to Olaf as you like, and your Olaf lying in the snow is complete!

Serving homemade shaped desserts during Christmas is very festive. Dessert molding can be done with fast tools like 3D printing, vacuum forming, etc. Infinitely replicating various styles or quantities is practical for parties or gift exchanges; for small and medium-sized dessert shops, it not only facilitates creative development but also saves production time.

Do you have even better creative ideas? Come and try using theFormBox vacuum former to create your own unique desserts and amaze everyone at your Christmas party! Alternatively, we also offer high-quality3D printing services to create exquisite samples or functional prototypes for your customized projects.
