【3D Printing Application】NAVAIR supplies Ultimaker 3D printers to the US military!

MatterHackers, a renowned 3D printer and material retailer, has signed a 5-year, up to $5 million 3D printing military contract with the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR)! This is NAVAIR's largest desktop 3D printer military contract to date, and will see MatterHackers deploy 75 Level 1 additive manufacturing systems by 2025, including 3D printers and industrial-grade materials, as well as providing ongoing training and personalized support.

As one of the largest Ultimaker resellers, MatterHackers considers the Ultimaker S5 3D printer to be the best fit for NAVAIR's requirements, offering high-volume production, a wide range of NFC chip-compatible materials, IT security design, and integration with Ultimaker's Cura software.

Providing Internship Training
In addition to providing NAVAIR with Ultimaker S5 3D printers and industrial-grade materials, MatterHackers, through its partner Building Momentum, will also provide hands-on training to naval personnel and bases receiving MatterHackers' Level 1 additive manufacturing systems, with follow-up training throughout the 5-year contract.

3D Printing Applications in NAVAIR
This contract will deploy Ultimaker S5 desktop polymer systems to NAVSEA's Fleet Readiness Centers, Marine Corps Aviation Logistics Squadrons, and their associated expeditionary units, providing soldiers with the capability to print critical parts on demand.

As early as 2016, NAVAIR first 3D printed critical flight components for an aircraft and successfully flew it. A year later, NAVAIR requested its sister organization, the U.S. Navy's Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), to use 3D printed life-saving components on T-45 Goshawk training aircraft.

By 2018, approximately 1,000 3D printed parts were in use across the military, with 3D printed antenna mounts developed for the U.S. Navy's MH-60S Seahawk helicopters, and an investment in additive manufacturing data specialist Senvol to further develop its machine learning software to optimize 3D printed components and technologies.
