British product designer Katie Gillies is passionate about Slow Design and specializes in using Jesmonite (a composite water-based resin) to handcraft various unique products, home goods, and art installations.
This time, Katie will use terrazzo and mosaic inlay techniques to design a series of handmade coasters. What's special is that this project is a collaboration with Mayku FormBox, combining vacuum forming technology.
After designing the initial shape using materials like wood or clay, place it into the FormBox vacuum forming machine with vacuum forming sheets, and the blister mold is ready in just three seconds! After completion, the item can be easily demolded, and the desired mold shape is finished in seconds.
Next, mix the solidified terrazzo fragments with Jesmonite resin, adjusting the amount and color to your liking. Finally, pour all the materials into the vacuum-formed mold. After complete solidification and polishing, high-quality homemade coasters are ready! You can also apply this infinitely to design various containers, trays, planters, and other home decor items.
