[3D Printing] Bambu Lab Launches New Crowdfunding Platform to Help You Realize Your Wildest 3D Printing Dreams

Beyond Kickstarter, Bambu Lab's MakerWorld Platform Offers New Crowdfunding Features for Your Best 3D Printing Projects.
This new Kickstarter-like platform on Bambu Lab's MakerWorld features crowdfunding capabilities, designed to help creators bring their printing projects to life with a little financial help from fellow makers.


If you need a little funding to bring your groundbreaking 3D printing project from concept to reality, Bambu Lab understands. The company has just launched what it calls a "perfect testing ground" to make your wildest ideas come true.

Why does it exist?
"We’ve seen so many incredibly good ideas that never get off the ground because they’re too big, too complex, or require resources individual creators don’t have," Bambu Lab said on its blog. This new initiative allows the 3D printing community to back projects with financial pledges.

To support a maker, you'll need to upload your credit card information, and then, if the project reaches its funding goal, you'll be charged the pledged amount (starting at around $10). But beware, like Kickstarter, your contribution is considered support for the creator's effort to bring a new idea to life, not a purchase of a finished product. Therefore, no refunds will be issued if the project ultimately fails to deliver.

In a disclaimer, Bambu Lab states, "You are backing an ambitious and unproven creative project. There is a risk that rewards may not be delivered, even if the creator tries their best."

Most projects offer symbolic rewards to backers to thank them for their financial support. Rewards vary, but some might be physical models of the project, exclusive digital files, behind-the-scenes tutorials, and custom 3D prints. Neither MakerWorld nor the creators guarantee rewards or compensation.

Bambu Lab says that for Bambu Lab, the 3D printing community has always been dedicated to knowledge sharing, encouraging each other to try new things. "Crowdfunding seemed like a natural next step. It's a way to pool resources and support the projects we're most passionate about."
 
How does it work?
The process is very simple. Creators can launch crowdfunding campaigns for their upcoming projects, setting funding goals and timelines. Community members browse these campaigns and pledge to support the projects they want to see completed. This service works because it directly connects creators with the people who value their work most. No need to guess what the community wants—they show you by supporting your project.

For Creators:
Promote your project - Submit a detailed proposal outlining your idea. What is your model? What makes it unique? How will you use the funds? Remember, high-quality visuals go a long way in promoting your project and attracting more support.
Set goals - Set a funding goal that covers actual costs, such as software licenses, materials, or the time needed to finalize all details. Choose a timeline that suits you: 30, 45, or 60 days. Be specific; backers appreciate clear goals!
Create rewards - Offer tiered benefits to thank your backers. Don't limit yourself to generic models; consider exclusive digital files, behind-the-scenes tutorials, custom 3D prints based on your designs, DIY kits, or even personalized 3D printed items. The more personalized, the better.
Launch and connect - Once approved, your project goes live! Be transparent about how funds are used and any challenges. Consistent updates and active responses to comments build trust and manage expectations. We will promote excellent projects both on and off the platform to help you reach your goals.

For Supporters:
Browse active campaigns and discover projects that excite you, pledge your support, and get exclusive perks, such as early downloads or special editions. Follow creators as they turn their ideas into reality! Connect with other supporters who share your vision.

While anyone can launch a crowdfunding campaign, currently, Bambu Lab is only accepting by invitation "to ensure a smooth launch of this new feature." To submit your idea for consideration, send a brief description of your project along with any visuals or renderings to models@makerworld.com, with "Crowdfunding Project Application" in the subject line.

Other projects on MakerWorld's new "Crowdfunding" tab include games, a lamp, a wallet, a keyboard, and various models, all hoping to secure hundreds of dollars in funding. Similar to the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter, MakerWorld Crowdfunding also provides a wealth of information. Bambu Lab requires creators of each project to provide as much detail as possible, including images and videos, materials required for the project (software licenses, materials, etc.), project duration (30 to 60 days), and benefits available to supporters.

Bambu Lab states that they encourage creators to continuously update the platform and actively respond to comments on the platform to build trust and manage expectations. "We will promote excellent projects both on and off the platform to help you reach your goals." This Kickstarter-like platform echoes Bambu Lab's Patreon-like feature launched earlier this year on MakerWorld, offering commercial licensing memberships that run alongside its popular free 3D model library.
 
Vision
Bambu Lab hopes to see projects that require real thought, design, and engineering come to fruition through crowdfunding campaigns. These projects often fall by the wayside because they are too difficult for one person to undertake and there's no way to know if anyone will appreciate them. Crowdfunding can change that.
