【3D Printing News】Coaster making on-site, free experience in Kaohsiung!
Is your coaster absorbent but doesn't dry, bulky, and easily breakable? FormBox vacuum forming is so fun! Customize coasters with a free experience, choose what you want this weekend at the "Mega Maker Day" in Kaohsiung! ("Mega Maker Day" is in Kaohsiung this week!)
This time, we want to share the vacuum-formed object "water-catching coaster." You can also choose your name and favorite design at the booth. In addition to comparing the FormBox and Vaquform DT2 vacuum forming machines, there will also be industrial-grade Ultimaker S3 and affordable Prusa 3D printers! How exactly are these water-catching coasters made? Here's a sneak peek before the exhibition:
First, we prepare several circular plates of different heights, open-source cartoon designs, and English letters, all placed in the Ultimaker Cura 4.4 slicing software; then, we print them using an Ultimaker 3D printer, and the module for vacuum forming is complete!

These printed 3D designs will be used as materials for vacuum forming. If you don't have a 3D printer, don't worry, you can use clay, cardboard, CNC cut wood pieces, etc. Any object made in various ways for shaping can be used on a vacuum forming machine. Additionally, the FormBox can be connected to any household vacuum cleaner as a vacuum pump, which is very convenient for general households or makers.

Place the printed circular frame onto the FormBox vacuum forming machine and put your desired design in the center. We chose a Totoro. You can also combine your English name or small designs around the circular frame to create your own personalized cartoon water-catching coaster.

Next, wait for the material sheet inside the FormBox to heat up to the specified temperature, then quickly press down to vacuum form, and your personalized coaster is born! In addition to the quick and simple steps, enthusiastic staff will be on hand to assist and guide you, so there's no need to worry at all.

Then it's time for the Vaquform DT2 to perform the shell molding. We chose Winnie the Pooh for this. Here's a close-up of the coaster prototype for your reference. Both vacuum devices, along with 3D printers and exciting exhibits, will be showcased simultaneously at the "Mega Maker Day."

The image below shows the differences between theVaquform DT2 andFormBox vacuum forming machines. Since the Vaquform DT2 has its own vacuum pump, its vacuum forming capability is stronger, and details are more distinct; the FormBox connects to any vacuum cleaner, so the vacuum forming effect in depressions is gentler but more uniform.

Both vacuum forming machines have their own characteristics. In terms of price and strength, the Vaquform DT2 is more suitable for industrial applications, small-batch production, and packaging development; while the FormBox is ideal for craft workshops, food molds, educational courses, and more.

After coloring each coaster, it's done! In addition to the pure white finished products, acrylic paints will also be provided on-site for everyone to paint their desired colors. Once dry, it's water-resistant, so you can use it with confidence; of course, you can also take it home for free. Welcome adults and children alike to experience the fun and practical vacuum forming machine.

I tested the Winnie the Pooh coaster with a full mug of water, and it worked perfectly. This weekend, December 7th and 8th, come to the "Mega Maker Day" and experience the FormBox vacuum forming machine for free to make your custom painted coaster! There will also be exclusive discounts and gifts waiting for you!
