3D Printing News】 3D printing makes a big difference, off-road performance is further optimized!

The "E-moto AGH" student team from "AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow", Poland, participated in the "Smart Motorcycle Competition". In order to pass the strict review of various aspects of the competition, the students continuously tried to produce high-performance electric off-road motorcycles.

The "Smart Motorcycle Competition" has been held for eight consecutive years, bringing together production teams from different countries each year. The judging panel will evaluate the functionality of each participating motorcycle in both static and dynamic ways. Static evaluation includes all project records, and primarily tests the motorcycle's weight, rain resistance, lighting, and brakes; dynamic evaluation focuses on testing the motorcycle's speed and endurance!

The "E-moto AGH" team continuously refined every part of the motorcycle using carbon fiber molds, SLS (Selective Laser Sintering), and FDM. Among them, the motorcycle's heat sink has a honeycomb structure. Since SLS technology has a wide range of applicability, such as heat resistance, water resistance, and structural complexity, etc., using an SLS 3D printed heat sink casing is more suitable in terms of durability and effect than using FDM filaments.

In addition, the 3D printed air deflector is not only sturdy and durable, but also effectively prevents the radiator from being jammed or damaged by gravel, just like a custom-made product. "Considering that the maximum temperature of the motorcycle's coolant is 60 degrees Celsius, using high-temperature resistant PA12 powder is the most suitable!" the students said.

Desktop SLS 3D printers offer fast printing speeds, making them suitable for academic research or small-batch production. Parts for motorcycles and automobiles require precision, durability, and reliable technology, and SLS has become the preferred choice for many R&D teams, manufacturers, small companies, and schools! The "E-moto AGH" team ultimately had two motorcycles pass all tests, and the students are actively developing new versions for next year's competition, not only promoting the development of electric vehicles but also creating new technologies!
