【3D Printing Application】JSPB - 3D Printed Blaster

3DMart is honored to exclusively interview JSPB, a Taiwanese foam dart blaster manufacturer that has taken America by storm. JSPB is short for JET STREAM PLASTIC BLASTER,
also known as foam dart blasters.
The JSPB foam dart blaster series, from design to production, is completed in Taiwan and marketed globally as DIY kits, making it another example of Taiwanese excellence.

JSPB's products are all self-developed, designed, and manufactured using Ultimaker 3D printers to create blaster toy kits, sold online.
Most customers are from the United States and are players in the Nerf foam dart blaster community, mostly adults who enjoy modifications.
The most popular products currently are the JSPB B&B MINIHOPPER
, JSPB PRO2, and JSPB EXTRA LIVES

JSPB B&B MINIHOPPER: A foam dart launcher that combines 3D printing with PVC pipes, an entry-level DIY kit.
JSPB PRO2: A larger launcher with more 3D printed components, suitable for advanced players, with precise shooting and three tactical rails.
JSPB EXTRA LIVES: An extra lives kit used for events and competitions, a life-sensing device that attaches to the arm and holds balloons.
The balloons burst instantly with a slight impact by pressing against a sharp point on the base.

Design Process

JSPB founder, Lin Lianyi, has a strong passion for shooting sports and DIY, so he combined these two interests to design foam dart blaster DIY kits.
Foam dart blasters are very safe because they fire foam darts, which do not cause damage indoors. Before 3D printers were available, traditional techniques were used, such as cutting wood with a scroll saw to create parts that connect to PVC pipes, which required large machinery and manual labor.

JSPB adopted 3D printing technology to enable more daring designs. The 3D printed parts that combine with PVC pipes require careful consideration of many mechanical designs. Through continuous research and
revisions for about a year, the design is perfected before moving to the next mass production stage, which avoids excessive costs and the risk of inventory accumulation during mass production.

When choosing a 3D printer, the Ultimaker 2 was considered for its easier troubleshooting and subsequent maintenance. Ultimaker offers free parts replacement for defects within warranty, and parts can be replaced by the user after warranty. The ability to replace nozzles is particularly appealing, providing more flexibility in use, and the parts printed by Ultimaker printers are very stable and precise.

JSPB currently uses a total of 4 Ultimaker 3D printers, which can operate simultaneously to print various parts. The image shows 3 printers in operation.

JSPB Future Development

Currently, JSPB's products are primarily sold overseas (USA). In Taiwan, they plan to incorporate educational activities, such as designing your own sight and then printing it, allowing participants to take home their finished creations.
Therefore, there will be more focus on the educational aspect in the future.

In the future, more free and paid digital products (3D model files) will be available for download, allowing overseas consumers to save on shipping costs and print at home. Currently, an entirely 3D printable model accessory without screws or springs is also under development.
