【3D Printing Application】Real and Functional, a 3D Printed Crossbow!

It's an adult toy! A 3D printed crossbow in action, this ultra-mini crossbow can not only be equipped with arrows but also fire them. It's fully functional and can even shoot at targets! The download link is at the bottom of the article, so gather your friends for a competition! This crossbow uses the elasticity of the PLA body to propel an elastic string for shooting. Let's take a look at its performance:

First, we put the file into the Ultimaker 3D printer, and all parts were printed after 6 hours. Since the crossbow has many interlocking components, it is recommended to choose the highest precision for 3D printing to make assembly easier.

We used the dual nozzle system of the Ultimaker 3 to print combinations of different colors, and there are also single-color PLA styles available. You can refer to our pictures to choose your preferred combination. After all parts are completed, pay attention to the numbers in the image and follow our step-by-step instructions to assemble the crossbow!

First, place (2) into (1), and (4) into (3); then snap it into the main body of (1), so that (4) becomes a movable slider, which is the original component for loading. Next, component (1) has many small holes for assembly; cut paper clips or styrofoam glue can be inserted inside for fixation.

Next, attach (5) and (6) to the left and right sides of the main body, respectively. Then, insert (7) into the back for fixation, and the basic shape is complete. The trigger at the back is indeed the firing controller!

After the internal structure is complete, the exterior assembly is relatively simple. Install (8) on top, (9) is the fixing device for the front of the main body and both ends of the bow, and (10) is inserted into the slots on both sides as shown in the picture to complete the main body!

All set except for the elastic string. We recommend using an "elastic string" that has some thickness and a round cross-section. There are small holes at both ends of the bow. Thread the string through one hole, tie a knot, then pass it through the back of the central slider, loop it around to the other side, and tie another knot. Done!

The finished crossbow looks very cool just sitting there. Our colleagues are having a blast playing with it. You can print targets in various colors for a competition, making it a unique tabletop game. Remember to push the slider forward before firing so it doesn't block the elastic string! Now, turn on your 3D printer and print your own crossbow!

Please note: For the arrows, we used toothpicks. We would like to remind you that the mini crossbow has considerable firing power and range. If there are children at home, we recommend using cotton swabs instead to avoid danger.
