Placing the glass print bed
1. Open the glass door.
2. Open the two build plate clamps in front of the build plate.
3. Gently slide the glass plate onto the build plate, ensuring it clicks into the rear build plate clamps.
4. Close the two front build plate clamps to secure the glass build plate and close the glass door.
✔Friendly reminder: For first use, it is recommended to use the materials supplied with the Ultimaker S5. These should be printed on the glass plate.

Connecting the power cable
1. Connect the power cable to the power socket on the back of the Ultimaker S5.
2. Plug the other end of the power cable into a wall outlet.

Selecting the print bed
To perform the setup steps, turn on the printer using the power switch on the back. You will first be asked to select your preferred language; after that, the welcome setup interface will appear
on the touchscreen. Follow the steps on the touchscreen. The next steps will be introduced on the next page of the user manual.
✔Tip: You can change the language on the printer at any time by navigating to Preferences > Settings > Language.
Confirm that the glass plate is installed
For first use, it is recommended to print with the materials supplied with the printer: Tough PLA and PVA. This material combination must be printed on the glass plate.
In this step, you must confirm that the glass print bed has been installed.
A thin layer of glue should be applied to the glass print bed to ensure reliable adhesion.

III. Installing Print Cores
Print cores
The Ultimaker S5 can use two interchangeable print cores in its print head.
There are two types of print cores:
Type AA: for printing build materials and Ultimaker breakaway materials
Type BB: for printing water-soluble support materials
Each Ultimaker S5 comes with two print cores AA 0.4 (one of which is already installed in print head slot 1) and one print core BB 0.4. This means you can
print with two build materials or with one build material and one support material.
Print cores contain information on a small chip so that the printer always knows which print cores are installed and which materials can be used with this print core.
Installing the second print core
During setup, the second print core must be installed. To do this, go to print core 2 and select Start. Follow the steps on the Ultimaker S5:
1. Carefully open the glass door and the print core fan bracket, then press Confirm.
2. Install the second print core (BB 0.4) into print head slot 2 by squeezing the print core lever and sliding it into the print head until you hear a click.
3. Carefully close the print head fan bracket and press Confirm to continue with the welcome setup process.
⚠Please note: Do not touch the contact points on the back of the print core with your fingers.
✔Friendly tip: Ensure the print core is completely vertical when installing for a smooth slide into the print head.

IV. Loading Materials
Before you can start printing on the Ultimaker S5, you need to load material into the printer. For first use, it is recommended to use the
Tough PLA and PVA filaments supplied with the Ultimaker S5.
Loading material 2
Load material 2 first, as it must be placed closest to the back of the printer. Select material 2 from the list displayed on the touchscreen, select Start, and then follow these steps to load the material.
1. Place the spool of material 2 (PVA) onto the spool holder and select Confirm. Ensure the end of the material is clockwise so that the material enters feeder 2 from the bottom.
2. Wait for the Ultimaker S5 to detect the material and press Confirm.
3. Insert the end of the material into feeder 2 and gently push until the feeder clamps it, and it can be seen in the distal Bowden tube.
4. Wait for the Ultimaker S5 to heat up print core 2 and load the material into the print head.
5. When the material is extruded from print core 2, confirm again.
6. Wait for print core 2 to cool down.
✔Friendly reminder: When using third-party materials, you can manually select the material type.
✔Friendly reminder: You can slightly straighten the end of the material for easier insertion into the feeder.

Loading material 1
Before placing material 1 on the spool holder, material 1 needs to be placed on the material guide to prevent the two materials from tangling during printing. Select material 1 from the list on the touchscreen,
select Start, and then follow these steps.
1. Pick up the material and turn the outside facing out.
2. Place the spool of material 1 (Tough PLA) on the spool holder with the material counter-clockwise and thread the material guide through the hole in the spool.
3. Place the spool of material 1 on the spool holder behind material 2, and then confirm.
4. Wait for the Ultimaker S5 to detect the material and select Confirm.
5. Insert the end of the material into feeder 1 and gently push until the feeder clamps it, and it can be seen in the distal Bowden tube.
6. Wait for the Ultimaker S5 to heat up print core 1 and load the material into the print head.
7. Confirm that the new material is extruded from print core 1.
8. Wait for print core 1 to cool down.
✔Friendly reminder: When using third-party materials, you can manually select the material type.
✔Friendly reminder: You can slightly straighten the end of the material for easier insertion into the feeder.

V. Installing WIFI and Firmware
Setting up WIFI
The Ultimaker S5 can print wirelessly using Wi-Fi or a network connection.
To connect your Ultimaker S5 to a wireless network, you will need a computer or smartphone. Start the Wi-Fi setup and follow the steps on the touchscreen.
1. Wait for your Ultimaker S5 to create a Wi-Fi hotspot. This may take a minute.
2. Connect to the printer using your computer or phone. The name of the Wi-Fi network will be displayed on the Ultimaker S5's touchscreen.
3. A pop-up window will appear on your computer or smartphone screen. Follow the steps to connect the Ultimaker S5 to your local Wi-Fi network. After completing these steps,
the pop-up message will disappear.
4. Return to the Ultimaker S5 and wait for the Wi-Fi setup to complete.
✔Friendly reminder: If the pop-up window does not appear, open a browser and go to a website that has not yet been recognized by the browser.
✔Friendly reminder: In some environments, the Ultimaker S5 may not be able to connect to a wireless network.
If this happens, use another computer or phone to repeat the Wi-Fi setup.
✔Friendly reminder: If you skip this step, you can go to Preferences > Network > Enable Wi-Fi to reconfigure.
Connecting via network
After completing the setup, you can set up a wired network connection by following these steps.
Connect one end of the network cable to the network cable socket on the back of the Ultimaker S5.
Connect the other end of the cable to the network source (router or modem).
By navigating to Preferences > Network and enabling the network.

Updating Firmware
The final step is for the Ultimaker S5 to confirm whether the latest firmware is installed. If it's an older version, it will automatically download and install the latest firmware.
This step may take a few minutes.
✔Friendly reminder: If the printer is connected to the network and an older firmware version is detected, you will only be prompted to install the latest firmware.
