【3D Printing News】Cura 4.2 Beta Released: Try it Now, Completely Free!

Ultimaker has released the new Ultimaker Cura 4.2 beta, and it's available for download now! Here are the new features and user experience improvements that Cura 4.2 will offer:

Orthographic View
As a professional user, you need more control over 3D view types when preparing to print. Cura 4.2 introduces the orthographic view function – the same view type used in professional CAD software, allowing you to easily compare model dimensions with your CAD designs. You can find this option under "View > Camera View > Orthographic View" (the actual name and location may vary in the official release of Cura 4.2).

(Orthographic view is typically used in CAD design, and it has now been added to Cura 4.2 to accommodate the habits of general modeling and drawing users.)

Object List
To facilitate identifying corresponding filenames and models, a new pop-up list in the main interface has been added. Clicking on a model in the preview workspace will highlight its filename; conversely, clicking on a filename will select the corresponding model. To accommodate individual user habits, this window will retain its last used state.

(Use the new object list to easily identify different items in the preview window.)

Retraction Distance Tuning
With some filament types, more "overflow" may occur during retraction and long travel moves. The new Cura 4.2 will add a new fine-tuning setting to the retraction distance to maintain precise extrusion width when resuming printing, resulting in a more perfect object.

Specific Flow
By adjusting the filament flow in specific functions (such as wall thickness, infill, support, prime tower, and adhesion), you can better control your 3D printed model.

Slice Button Delay
After clicking the slice button, some calculation time is required, and using other functions during this period may not reflect the adjustments. Therefore, the new version will add a "Processing" screen to more clearly inform users to wait for the slicing calculation.

(After clicking slice, "Processing" will be displayed. Any adjustments made during this period may not be reflected.)
