【3D Printing Application】"Heart Lock Box" for Christmas! The Romance of an Engineer!

Jingle bells! Jingle bells! December is just around the corner, ringing the alarm for your wallet! Christmas gifts are so hard to choose. Besides being edible, usable, and photogenic, they also need to be special and guaranteed not to disappoint? The 3D printed heart lock box – only you can open my heart – delivers the unique romance of an engineer!

How to get one? Come and join our technical sharing session, expand your knowledge, get great gifts, and find the link at the end of the article!
First, let's take a look at the Christmas gift we're sharing this time. In addition to the gift box itself, the ribbon can rotate freely, and it even has a real locking function! Be sure to keep the key safe, as it won't open if you lose it!

This time, we used the Ultimaker S5 for 3D printing. Thanks to its dual-nozzle system, we were able to use water-soluble supports to print the small tenon and mortise structure of the box body. At the same time, the Ultimaker S5 boasts high-precision 3D printing quality, precisely retaining tiny spaces in the center of the ribbon. Therefore, we also incorporated a rotation mechanism that doesn't require support, allowing the ribbon to be adjusted to any desired angle.

All parts combined take approximately 7 hours to 3D print. Normally, we would submerge it in water for perfect dissolution; however, because this structure is very small, the supports simply fall off cleanly when pulled.

The parts that need to be assembled are: the box body, the lid, a pair of ribbons, and a set of locking parts.

First, interlock the locking parts as shown in the image below, and then test the smoothness of their rotation.

Next, attach it to the protruding tenon at the bottom inside the box. It will look like a small person with its own antenna. The locking mechanism is complete, it's that simple!

Then, place anything you want to give to the other person inside, for example: chocolates or dried flowers.

There are two parts to the ribbon. Align the keyholes with each other, then put on the first layer of ribbon, and place the decorative one on the outermost layer. That's it, you're all done!

For an advanced version, you can first place rings, earrings, necklaces, cash, etc. underneath, so that after the recipient finishes the chocolates on top, they can receive an even bigger surprise, perfectly concealing your little secret. The 3D printed heart lock box – this Christmas, embrace the romance of an engineer!
