【3D Printing Knowledge】3 Tips to Make Your 3D Prints Even More Perfect!

With the prevalence of 3D printing technology, beyond understanding the technical aspects, have you considered the small details in production that can make your finished product even more perfect? Today, we're going to share 3 effective tips to improve your 3D printing quality!

1. Lay a good foundation, bid farewell to warping
3D printing is like building a house; laying a good foundation is crucial! The filament, after being heated and softened, is extruded from the nozzle, and the rapid cooling causes thermal expansion and contraction. If the bottom of the object has many sharp corners or a small contact area with the platform, it can lead to warping of the 3D printed object. Applying a special adhesive to the print platform of the 3D printer before starting the print can effectively reduce warping. We typically use "Magigoo" glue, applying just 1-2 thin layers to stabilize the print position. After printing, the finished product can be easily removed from the platform. The glue has a smooth texture, is easy to clean, and its odorless, non-toxic ingredients make it very safe to use!

2. Water-soluble support, easy separation
When 3D printing complex models, the filament can sag due to gravity, requiring support structures to be added to overhanging areas. After printing, the support must be separated from the main body of the object. If PLA filament is used to print both the model and the support simultaneously, they will be tightly bonded, making support removal time-consuming and potentially damaging to the model.

However, by using water-soluble PVA filament for support structures, they can be dissolved simply by washing them with water, eliminating the need for manual removal. This perfectly restores the model while maintaining a smooth and complete surface. For example, our dual-nozzle 3D printers from Ultimaker can print both the object and its support simultaneously. The image below shows that the contact surface remains very smooth and flat after the PVA support is dissolved. (Further reading: Comparing Support Effects: Which Method is Right for You?)

3. Alcohol polishing for a sparkling surface
Using a Polymaker Polysher to polish models, gaseous alcohol dissolves the surface of the 3D printed object, blending the stacked layers and creating a smooth effect. This significantly enhances the model's texture in a short amount of time!
