【3D Scanning Application】Automotive Modification and Repair Made Easy with Two Low-Cost Applications!

No commute is complete without music! High-end car audio systems don't have to break the bank for modifications, and if your motorcycle helmet is damaged, don't rush to throw it away. Japanese engineer Katsuya Tanabiki uses 3D scanning and 3D printing to create application examples with the lowest cost and highest efficiency. Whether it's the modification or repair of automotive parts and accessories, nothing is too difficult. Here are 2 applications:

.Car A-pillar – Customized Audio System
Many car enthusiasts are particular about the sound quality of their in-car music. Besides the original audio system, how can other audio equipment be added? Placing it on the dashboard is not ideal, and installing it on the A-pillar is the best choice for both appearance and sound quality. However, this involves modifications to the car's structure, which usually requires significant outsourcing costs for installation.

Katsuya uses a Shining EinScan Pro 2X 3D scanner to scan the car's A-pillar. After adjusting the brightness in the software, black structures can be scanned smoothly. Alternatively, AESUB self-evaporating scanning spray (developer) can be used, which covers the object's surface with a layer of white powder. After a few hours, the powder will automatically evaporate, without affecting the scanned object. Using the EinScan Pro 2X 3D scanner, the process takes only 5 minutes! Then, simply keep the part where the audio system will be installed, and select and delete the superfluous parts (red section).

Import the scanned car A-pillar file directly into Fusion 360, and use CAD modeling software to design and 3D model the external structure of the audio system (Click here to see: Snapmaker with Fusion 360: 3D Model Carving!).

Full-face Helmet – Latch Part
If the transparent visor of a full-face motorcycle helmet has a broken or damaged latch part, users often decide to replace the entire helmet to ensure driving safety. But wait! Using 3D scanning and 3D printing technology, you can replicate the exact same part and bring your helmet back to life.

Katsuya uses the Shining EinScan Pro 2X with a tripod for fixed 3D scanning, accurately capturing the latch structure. The Shining series 3D scanners offer three scanning modes: handheld intricate, tripod fixed, and fixed turntable. You can choose the most suitable mode based on the size of the object to be scanned.

After scanning, export the 3D file and import it into CAD software for model repair and reconstruction of the damaged structure. Finally, use a 3D printer to reproduce the file. Repairing a full-face helmet takes only 1 hour.

Did you enjoy this sharing? Now, custom industrial parts and accessory installations no longer need to be outsourced. By utilizing industrial technology, the combination of 3D printing and 3D scanning can create more benefits and save costs. Whether for enterprise development or personal use, the potential is vast. 3DMART offers more than just 3D printing. Contact us now to learn more about the Shining series 3D scanners.
