【3D Printing News】The Secret to Snapmaker J1's High Efficiency and Quality! Revealed!
3D printing enthusiasts know that 3D printing speed is still relatively slow, especially with FDM technology. Depending on the complexity, size, and accuracy requirements of the model, some types of prints can even take hours or days to complete. A balance must be struck between time and quality.

Snapmaker J1 successfully ensures both quality and speed. Compared to other mainstream IDEX 3D printers on the market, a major highlight of the J1 is its high printing speed. IDEX 3D printers typically struggle to achieve faster printing speeds because the two independent printheads must carry a greater weight, increasing inertia. On the other hand, the X-axis bears a heavier load when moving two nozzles, making accurate movement more challenging under such conditions. However, the Snapmaker J1 has overcome these difficulties, effectively improving printing speed performance and maintaining a layer height of 0.1 mm at a speed of 350mm/s.

Four solutions, based on hardware and software, can accomplish this seemingly impossible task. The first is vibration compensation, also known as input shaping. High-speed movement can easily generate excessive or residual vibrations, especially at the end of operation, leaving unwanted vibrations or ghosting effects on the printed object, which then affects quality.

Below is a screenshot recording the vibration level of the Snapmaker J1 with input shaping turned on and off. As shown in the figure below, the unevenness of the lines indicates free vibration, which occurs when the printhead changes its direction of motion.

Rapid 3D printing of sharp shapes can easily compromise print quality. Second, by analyzing the direction of movement in advance, the turning speed is optimized to improve print quality at corners.

Third, nozzles making short, sharp turns often accelerate and brake alternately. When the entire machine shakes, the whole process can be very unstable and noisy. Therefore, the Snapmaker J1 adjusts the maximum printing speed when the print nozzle turns at high frequencies.

Fourth, the Snapmaker J1 introduces a continuous printing seamless switching mechanism in IDEX printing, fully leveraging the advantages of IDEX. This mechanism is suitable for situations where two nozzles work alternately, such as in dual-color printing. Typically, when one nozzle finishes printing, it stops at the side, and the other nozzle then heats up from standby temperature to the initial printing temperature before switching back to continue printing.

Now, with the software and hardware improvements of the Snapmaker J1, the idle nozzle heats up to the initial printing temperature while waiting, and when the active nozzle leaves its current printing position, the idle nozzle immediately takes its place and continues printing. Through this method, the two independent nozzles can switch seamlessly. Watch the video below to see how the Snapmaker J1 operates.

In addition to software and hardware improvements, the Snapmaker J1's body is composed of an upper frame, an integrated base, and four aluminum alloy rods. Therefore, it is very robust and reliable, with minimal swaying and deformation. Furthermore, industrial-grade linear guides, processed with micro-nanometer CNC grinding, ensure smooth operation.
