【CNC Milling】Snapmaker Rotary Module Full Tutorial, Easily Carve 1mm Hollow Spirals!
Easily carve hollow objects with CNC, achieve extremely delicate suspended spirals! This full Snapmaker 2.0 Rotary Module tutorial includes unboxing and practical testing, software operation. Follow the video and you'll master it immediately:
The Snapmaker 2.0 Rotary Module unboxing includes three main components: "Three-Jaw Rotary Module," "Tailstock," and "Base." It also comes with three sets of test materials (for laser engraving, CNC milling) and a screw tool kit. Simply tighten the screws to fix the rotary module and tailstock onto the base, then install it on the CNC work platform to complete the assembly!

I. Calibrating the Rotary Module
Before calibration, tighten the three-jaw chuck of the rotary module and fix the workpiece onto it (install the tailstock after calibration). Update the Snapmaker firmware (click here to update), power on the Snapmaker 2.0 A350 3-in-1 3D Printer, and follow the instructions on the touchscreen to easily complete the calibration. (During calibration, please be careful not to touch the sharp tool head with your hands.)

Calibration is mainly performed by using the tool head and calibration paper (included) to precisely position from four directions: top, left, right, and front of the material. Click the arrow buttons on the screen to control the tool head direction in real-time. After calibration, install the rotary module tailstock, and the equipment pre-setup is complete!
II. Software Operation (Click to Download)
1. Import File
After importing the 3D model file into the software, the system will automatically convert the "3D solid" into a "2D unfolded view," then align the unfolded view with the material preview area.

2. Preview Engraving Effect
Click "Model View" to simulate and preview the CNC engraving effect in the software before starting the engraving.

3. Toolpath Settings
The slices for CNC engraving models mainly come in two types: Rotation and Linkage.
.Rotation: The system's X-axis will be locked, and the carving path will first engrave the object's thickness. After carving each layer of thickness, it will return to the starting point to engrave details and textures.
.Linkage: The system's X-axis will operate synchronously, and the carving path will be based on the model's shape. The tool head will directly complete each shape of the object, forming thickness and details all at once.

4. Toolpath Simulation
After completing the parameter settings, the system will automatically preview the CNC carving path (blue area). You can confirm whether the file is correct before outputting, then upload the completed sliced model via USB to the Snapmaker 2.0 3-in-1 3D Printer to begin rotary carving.

III. Start CNC Rotary Engraving
The engraved object is a cylindrical piece of "wood" with a diameter of 35mm and a length of 70mm. To prevent excessive dust dispersion and reduce operating noise during engraving, it is recommended to optionally use the Snapmaker Enclosure to achieve the highest quality working environment.

The rotating spiral body is complete! The hollow inner layer has a diameter of only 1mm, and the engraving effect is extremely precise and delicate. The editor thinks the shape looks super like a chromosome! What do you think? Unleash your creativity! Everyone can be a rotary engraver. Suspended shapes are easy to carve, and cylindrical shapes are also possible!
