You already know that Sinterit's SLS laser powder sintering technology does not require support material, making it suitable for complex hollow and mechanical structures. This time, we will share Sinterit's latest 3D printed samples. Let's first look at its dynamic performance:
This SLS movable 3D printed gripper, which somewhat resembles an alien creature, combines only two parts: a rigid structure and soft tips.
The rigid structure is printed using PA12 powder, resulting in a hard product with good mechanical strength and heat resistance. The soft tips use Flexa Black elastic black powder, which is a TPU polymer, elastic, and chemically resistant. In addition to industrial mechanical structures, it is also being developed for applications in the fashion industry (further reading: 3D Printed Fashion Adorns Miss South Africa).
As seen in the figure, the movable structure consists of a central spring, two side push-buttons, and a closed pull-loop. Pressing the buttons activates the internal spring, causing the gripper tips to open and close.
Thanks to the support-free forming method of SLS 3D printing technology, these objects can be integrally formed in a single 3D print, eliminating the need for gluing or additional assembly for enclosed parts.
We additionally printed the central spring to show you the material properties and toughness of the central spring structure. It requires considerable force to press and has excellent rebound.
Furthermore, we took close-up shots of the sample details so you can see that Sinterit prints typically have no obvious layer lines, but rather a matte or frosted surface texture.
