More versatile new prints from Sinterit are here! This time, we printed bicycle "clipless pedals," which are multi-functional pedals used by road bike enthusiasts to secure their feet. Clipless pedals are designed to work with special cleated shoes, fixing the feet to the pedals for efficient power transfer and reducing the risk of sports injuries. Here's a simple video showcasing how the mechanism works, so you can clearly understand:
In the video, you can see that the clipless pedals require a spring-back mechanism and a latching feature, as well as a rotating structure for connecting to the bicycle. Sinterit utilizes SLS laser powder sintering 3D printing technology, which is suitable for printing versatile structures or movable devices. Therefore, we chose this complex 3D printing sample.
All structures can be completed in a single 3D printing session, and SLS technology does not require supports. Printed with PA12 powder, the material is hard and the structure connecting to the bicycle body can rotate a full 360 degrees. The part that connects to the sole of the shoe has two cleat mechanisms, a movable one and a fixed one. You can see slight protruding structures on the 3D-printed clipless pedal, as well as an automatic spring-back system for the movable cleat.

Additionally, here's a close-up of the front structure. The 3D-printed springs this time are separate, unlike previous prints where they were connected to the structure. The circular screw in the bottom center can also rotate freely.
