【3D Printing Lecture】Recap of 2024 NTUEE Makerthon MakeNTU Workshop
We were delighted to once again participate in the 2024 NTUEE Makerthon MakeNTU event. To ensure the smooth running of the Makerthon competition from May 4th to 5th, students first attended a workshop to learn basic 3D printing concepts and knowledge, followed by practical application through hands-on teaching. 3DMart staff specially prepared 3D printing slicing software and provided physical equipment instruction, covering normal slicing, multicolor printing, support settings, filament changing, basic machine precautions, and maintenance. We also listened to students' different design ideas and needs. In the workshop, we guided students with no prior experience to use Bambu Lab series 3D printers, and performed hands-on operations and tests to complete their desired 3D printed works!
What is Make NTU?
The 2024 MakeNTU event is themed "ExplorEr," upholding the philosophy of "We need it, we create it." The event aims to encourage participants to identify problems in daily life, combine their learned knowledge and skills, and embody the Maker spirit to put their ideas into practice and contribute to society. Participants are encouraged to break away from existing knowledge and technical frameworks, think from new perspectives, and create impactful works.

Focus on "Hardware and Software Integration": Emphasizes hardware implementation, supplemented by software development and product design. Participants are required to create physical works that are close to daily life in a short period.
Emphasis on "Collaboration and Exchange": Connects outstanding students from all over Taiwan, promoting exchange and cooperation between different fields, and driving technological development.
Attention to "Corporate Connection": Builds a bridge for cooperation between enterprises and participants, encouraging enterprises to offer internship or job opportunities to outstanding participants, promoting industry-academia linkage, and extending the value of the event.
Through these efforts, the MakeNTU event hopes that participants will bravely explore various ideas and creativity, and create novel and practical inventions to solve real-life problems.
Exciting Workshop Content
This time, we specifically selected the highly popular Banbu Lab desktop full-color 3D printers: X1 Carbon Combo, P1S Combo, and X1E 3D printers. Unlike previous 3D printers, they combine printing speed with quality and offer simple and intuitive software operation. In the past, understanding 3D printer installation, calibration, testing, slicing software, and complex parameter settings would take a long time, but with Bambu Lab, it can be completed within 20-30 minutes.
NTU students can quickly manufacture various creative ideas. Especially for beginners, it's easy and fast to get started. Participants can rely on its powerful features to print finished products without needing overly specialized knowledge, allowing them to focus more on product design itself, realize their innovative concepts, and transform them into concrete practical works.
We specially prepared 3D printed works and samples, all completed with Bambu Lab X1 Carbon Combo, P1S Combo, and X1E 3D printers, for students to reference size and complexity. We also generously shared our printing experience and professional techniques.

Course Content
• Introduction to the features of major machines
• First-time 3D printing process
• How to perform multi-color printing - slicing software techniques
• Students' hands-on operation of the machines

In the brief introduction to the features of major machines, each machine's distinct characteristics were highlighted, such as: semi-automatic belt tensioning, smart internal control system of the printhead, and constant temperature control inside the enclosure. These detailed aspects determine why these 3D printers are renowned in the industry for their speed and print quality!

The instructor also meticulously explained the steps of the "Bambu Studio" slicing software and various printing parameters for objects, including: layer height, internal and external strength, supports, and printing speed. Students were able to observe and apply these concepts more concretely in their competition works by using the samples we provided.

(Left) Observing the effect of layer height settings on the appearance of the printed product, (Right) The effect of different support settings on printing.

Due to our familiarity and trust in the Bambu Lab series of 3D printers, we spontaneously printed a David statue on-site before the lecture to give away. It only took less than 1.6 hours and the quality was excellent!

After the intensive 3D printing workshop, we believe that the participating students have gained a lot! 3DMart hopes everyone can use what they've learned to shine in the competition! See you on the day of the competition!
