【3D Printing】PRUSA and ALBI Partner to Launch Board Game "Collision Derby"!
You can print more durable pieces to replace cardboard ones, create a proper storage box so you don't have to painstakingly organize everything before each game, or add miniatures to enhance the gaming experience... the possibilities are endless.
This isn't surprising to PRUSA – they are board game enthusiasts themselves.
Now, they can finally perfectly combine these two passions.
Thanks to the collaboration between Czech board game publisher Albi and PRUSA, a long-held dream has come true with the launch of "Collision Derby" –
A board game designed specifically for the 3D printing community.
More than three years ago, PRUSA shared a booth with Albi at the Spiel game fair in Essen, Germany – Spiel being the world's largest board game exhibition.
At that time, they were already discussing collaborating on a game: a game built from the ground up around 3D printing technology.
At the same time, they didn't want it to be "only playable with a 3D printer."
The goal was to develop a game that would work perfectly even without a 3D printer, while also allowing players to experience the new fun brought by 3D printing technology in an interesting way.
Ultimately, they opted for a solution that combined the best of both worlds: the game itself (with car models printed for the base box) works perfectly, while also being easily expandable through 3D printing.
This opens the door for upgrades, new ideas, and community engagement through printable content.
Testing Phase
After Spiel 2022, Albi sent PRUSA the first game concepts in the following months.
Some of them were excellent, but one clearly stood out – a racing game with crash elements.
The game didn't even have a name then, but it immediately captivated them just from the paper design.
Game Content
"Collision Derby" is a racing game for the whole family, combining strategy with exciting action.
Each player drives their own race car, aiming to move across the game board as fast as possible –
But this time, the goal isn't to be the first to cross the finish line.
Your mission is to collect the four flags scattered across the game board before your opponents.
Of course, these vehicles are also equipped with an arsenal of weapons, which can cause significant trouble for other players.
You can interfere with opponents, destroy their upgrades, and disrupt their carefully planned turns (the game even rewards you for this).
And since flag areas are most likely to attract vehicles, collisions are almost inevitable.
The most striking feature of the game is the "steering wheel" on the player panel: a mechanical device made of three gears.
You need to plan your actions in advance and place them into these gears.
But at the end of each round, the gears rotate – so if your plan isn't thorough, your car will start to act "on its own" uncontrollably.
This is also the fun of the game: you need to think ahead, but also remain flexible, as other players will constantly interfere with your plans.
The result is a fast-paced, highly interactive adventure where strategy often devolves into utter chaos.
Race cars collide, shoot, and dodge at the last minute, turning the entire track into a crazy derby arena where anything can change in the turn of a wheel.
This game is suitable for 2-4 players, fast-paced, and a round typically lasts about an hour.
The rules are clearly written and easy to understand, even for younger players, so it's recommended for players aged 10 and up.
Currently, you can find three printable car models and a steering wheel-shaped player panel on the Printables website. But
This is just the beginning – the game will receive more support in the future.
They plan to hold design competitions and invite the Printables community to participate.
Some competitions will focus on aesthetic design, but larger competitions will also involve game design, aiming to create complete standalone expansions.
