[New Product News] Mayku Launches New Reducing Plate and Multiplier Firmware 2.0 with Detailed Usage Tutorial!

Mayku has launched new accessories - the Reducing Plate and Multiplier Firmware 2.0 to expand the possibilities of the Multiplier! What is the Multiplier? What are the benefits of these new releases? How do you actually use them? This article will answer all your questions and get you started easily!

The Multiplier is a desktop pressure former capable of achieving sub-micron resolution on sheet materials up to 5mm thick. Combined with high-resolution 3D printing, it can produce high-quality, injection-mould-like parts in minutes.

Mayku has now released Multiplier Firmware 2.0, which includes custom mode, giving you complete control over machine settings and allowing you to create, save, and edit material profiles for future use. Whether it's Mayku materials, third-party materials, or any other material you want to experiment with, it's all possible! Unlock the application of all factory-grade thermoforming materials, with no more limitations!

Mayku has also released a brand new accessory: the Reducing Plate. The new Reducing Plate integrates perfectly with the Mayku Multiplier, compressing the Multiplier's forming area to A4 or US letter format, allowing access to hundreds of sheet suppliers worldwide and reducing waste.

Together, these new releases unlock hundreds of thermoforming materials that can be used with the Multiplier, and combined with high-resolution 3D printing, you can get injection mold quality parts from your desktop in minutes.

Custom Mode: Perfectly tune your machine to access hundreds of materials

Using custom mode, the Multiplier can learn any new thermoforming sheet material in minutes, with smart learning and extensive access! Hundreds of profiles can be saved directly to the machine for future use, making it easy to use materials from any supplier. You can also edit saved profiles after creating them.

Custom Mode allows you to create, save, and edit custom forming profiles for any compatible thermoforming material. This allows you to achieve consistent high-quality results when using your own materials between 0.1 and 5 mm (with the reducing plate, you can use sheets over 5 mm thick), giving you precise control over temperature and pressure to adjust the level of detail for the desired effect!

With these new features, engineers, designers, and educators can test, validate, and save the settings required for various thermoforming materials.

How do you actually use Custom Mode? Here's a step-by-step guide so you don't have to look elsewhere!

Thermoforming with Custom Mode

Follow these steps to unleash the full potential of Custom Mode for your thermoforming projects.

1. Select a material sheet

First, select a material sheet for your project. You can use a full-size material sheet cut into a 428 mm diameter circle. Alternatively, if you have a reducing plate, you can use A4 or US Letter sized sheets, which allows for more efficient use of material for smaller shapes. You can find out the melting temperature of the material by asking your supplier, searching online, or contacting us.

2. Create a custom profile

Once the melting temperature is reached, you're ready to go!

Navigate to the material list
Select "Add Material" (at the top)
Fill in material type, temperature, and pressure*

*Different materials have unique forming temperatures and pressures. Generally, thicker sheets require higher pressure for effective forming. For example, a 1mm HIPS sheet might be optimal at 160°C and 45 PSI, but a 3mm HIPS sheet might require 160°C and 60 PSI. It's best to experiment with these settings for your specific application.
You can choose to adjust the following:

Forming Time: The duration the sheet is under pressure.

Cooling Time: The duration the sheet cools after pressure is released.

Heater Pressure: Indicates when the heater activates. You can modify this setting for fast-heating materials to minimize waiting time.

3. Calibrate the sheet

The Multiplier includes a built-in sheet leveling mechanism. This system allows the Multiplier to keep the sheet perfectly level while heating.

During this calibration phase, press the up and down arrows on the machine to ensure the sheet remains as level as possible. Proper calibration is crucial to prevent issues like uneven shapes or problems when shutting down the machine.

4. Save the sheet profile

After calibration, you can save the sheet profile. You can use the generated name or specify a custom name for easier future reference.

Open up a new world of materials and reduce waste with the Reducing Plate

Perfectly integrated with the Mayku Multiplier, the Reducing Plate effectively shrinks the forming area to A4 or US letter format. This reduction allows access to numerous sheet suppliers worldwide specializing in straight-cut sheets, making it easier to source specific or specialized sheets.

Additionally, when forming smaller parts, the Reducing Plate minimizes material waste, ensuring precise material usage. As it uses less material, it also reduces the likelihood of curling on the final part.

With the Reducing Plate, you can also start forming thicker materials (over 5 mm thick), allowing you to create rock-solid, finely detailed parts with various different materials.

On the other hand, the Reducing Plate can use extremely thin materials as fine as 100 microns, enabling ultra-fine film applications!

Benefits:

• Uses off-the-shelf thermoforming materials in A4 or US Letter sizes (250 x 180 mm).
• Can handle materials over 5 mm thick.
• Reduces the risk of curling on taller objects.

Combining the Reducing Plate and Custom Mode, the Multiplier becomes a desktop production device, and with high-resolution 3D printing technology. It can produce injection mold quality parts from your desktop in minutes.

If you want to reduce curling on thermoformed parts, the Reducing Plate is a useful accessory. It allows for taller tools to be used compared to the standard size Multiplier sheets and can form thicker materials up to 8mm.

So how do you use this new accessory - the Reducing Plate? Here are the instructions for its practical use!

Using the Mayku Multiplier Reducing Plate
Watch the video below for instructions on how to use the Reducing Plate:

Preparation

• Cut your reducing plate material to the correct size (A4 or US letter).
Ensure you have heat-resistant gloves on hand (included).
Alternatively, prepare a piece of white chalk.

Place the reducing plate into the Multiplier, ensuring the long edge of the reducing plate aligns with the front edge of the Multiplier.

Using white chalk, outline the open area of the reducing plate on the Multiplier's bed. This will serve as your template placement guide.

Loosen Screws: Turn all four screws counter-clockwise to loosen them; there's no need to fully unscrew them.
Remove Top Tray: Pull the handle to slide the top tray outwards. If it doesn't move smoothly, loosen the screws a bit more. Now set the top tray aside.
Position Sheet: Choose your desired sheet and remove all protective layers. Place the sheet on the reducing plate, ensuring it's centered.
Secure Sheet: Place the top tray back over the sheet and slide it back to its original position. Tighten all four screws, ensuring they apply roughly equal pressure. Check for any obvious gaps along the visible edges.
Insert Reducing Plate: Place the entire reducing plate assembly into the Multiplier. Double-check that the long edge of the reducing plate aligns with the front edge of the Multiplier.
Operate Multiplier: Operate the machine as usual. While standard Mayku profiles can be used, it's recommended to use the new Custom Mode feature to set up a custom profile for optimal results.
Post-Forming Process: After the forming cycle is complete, put on heat-resistant gloves; the reducing plate will be hot. Carefully remove the reducing plate from the Multiplier.

Note: If it sticks to the Multiplier's seal, gently pry it loose with a screwdriver while supporting the bottom to prevent it from falling.

Loosen all four screws, slide out the top tray, and remove the formed item from the reducing plate. Your formed part is now ready!
