3DMart is participating in the Taipei Cycle show from 10/31 to 11/3! A friendly reminder to quickly grab this chance to visit the exhibition and get gifts! Besides the three types of 3D printers, what other new and exciting things will be there? Let's take a look!
Everyone has seen track toys as a child. Did you want them badly but didn't have any pocket money? Now with a 3D printer, you can make whatever you want and even challenge yourself to customize super complex roller coaster tracks! What components are needed for this principle? The track body, a spiral shaft that can move upwards, a control panel for the spiral shaft, and an additional mystery guest – a slow motor. Let's first look at the result of the manual version:

How was this made? First, the file is loaded into Cura to analyze the track body. It can automatically detect and generate support materials and calculate the printing time. The screen shows an estimated printing time of over three days, and the actual printing time had almost no deviation.

The new Cura 3.5 has many new features, and our actual tests confirm it's even easier to use. Not only does it support printers other than Ultimaker, it also adds various materials and preferences, and it's free! To learn more about the software details, you can refer to our previous Cura 3.5 introduction article.

After three days of 3D printing, the main body of the roller coaster track is finally complete! This time, we used an Ultimaker 3 dual-nozzle 3D printer, printing the main body with PLA and using PVA for support. After completion, the track body is directly placed in water, and the PVA dissolves automatically. This post-processing method, loved by those who seek ease, has already become a new favorite among our engineers, allowing you to elegantly finish work, meet deadlines, and avoid chasing orders when prototyping!

Dissolving the support material takes about a day, and an air pump in the water tank speeds up the process! Doesn't it look like a landscape decoration in an aquarium?

After printing the other parts with 3D printing, connect the control panel in the lower right of the image with the latch in the middle, and then attach the spiral shaft on the far left. The critical control components are now completed.

The assembled result is very satisfying; even the editor had a lot of fun playing with it. Thanks to Ultimaker's printing quality, we even 3D printed the marbles. Turning the control panel keeps the marbles continuously running on the track!

Is it finished? The engineers weren't satisfied yet, so they modified it with a motor to allow the marble track to rotate indefinitely. A marble roller coaster was the toy we most wanted as children; quickly 3D print your own personalized one!

All engineers and Makers can design even more complex track versions to play with; it's very therapeutic after connecting a motor.
