【3D Printing】LEGO Unveils New Holiday Set, Featuring First Mass-Produced 3D Printed Brick
LEGO® Icons Holiday Express Train Shines Bright!

The LEGO Group has released its holiday set for the season, a major announcement in consumer additive manufacturing (AM). One of the sets, called the "LEGO Icons Holiday Express Train," features the company's first mass-produced 3D printed component. This functional train combines LEGO connectors with "internal functionality that only AM can achieve."
Every year, LEGO's holiday sets are highly anticipated, with parents scrambling to buy them as Christmas gifts and adult LEGO fans eager to add them to their collections. This year, we expect the Holiday Express Train set to extend its popularity to another group – 3D printing enthusiasts.

This 3D printed train is one of the 956 bricks in the LEGO Icons Holiday Express Train series, and LEGO's first mass-produced item. LEGO wrote in a press release: “The set is the perfect touch for holiday decor, boasting a 16-brick circular track that can be placed on a table or around a Christmas tree. Fans can even power the locomotive using a LEGO Power Up kit.”
Ronen Hadar, Head of Additive Design & Manufacturing at the LEGO Group, posted on LinkedIn, revealing more details about this 3D printed train part, including that it was manufactured using an EOS 3D printer based on Fine Detail Resolution (FDR) technology. FDR is a powder-based polymer 3D printing technology that integrates an ultra-fine CO laser, enabling ultra-fine details and high-precision printing. Hadar stated that this system is crucial for achieving "high precision and high quality... meeting LEGO's standard quality and safety requirements."

This release marks a significant step for LEGO in the field of 3D printing—a field we have been following for the past few years. In 2022, LEGO released its first official 3D printed creation: a LEGO duck, given as a gift to guests at the LEGO House adult fan event. At the time, Hadar stated: "The team has been working with our talented designers to develop, approve, and manufacture this super cool component. This is an important milestone for the team. We look forward to sharing more news with you in the future." However, this duck was not available to the public or mass-produced. In this sense, the holiday train set is an important beginning.
The LEGO Icons Holiday Express Train set (recommended for ages 18+) will be officially released to LEGO Insiders on October 1, 2025, with general availability on October 4, 2025. The set will retail for $129.99 (119.99 EUR / 109.99 GBP).
