【Laser Processing Applications】Engraving and Cutting Made Easy with the MUSE Laser Processing Machine!

The unboxing review you've all been waiting for is here! What can the brand new MUSE laser processing machine from the US do? It handles cutting, lettering, and engraving with ease. After our previous user case study (Further reading: Mass Production of Handmade Jewelry – Ann's Jewelry & Décor), we're back with more unboxing and testing!

The MUSE laser processing machine, having traveled across the ocean, comes packaged in a wooden crate. Inside the crate, there's an additional cardboard box and foam packaging, ensuring the product arrives safely in the customer's hands.

Upon opening the cardboard box, you'll find a quick user manual. Please read the instructions carefully before starting. Remove all foam and open the dedicated RetinaEngrave v2 laser engraving software online, which can be used directly through a browser without needing to download anything!

We found a free design online (Further reading: Free Resources Uncovered! The Top 5 3D Model Libraries are Here!) – a "Do Not Disturb" door hanger – to test. After importing it into the RetinaEngrave v2 software interface, you can freely resize it and preview the cutting area. The column on the right allows you to adjust the precision or intensity of the laser processing. The overall operation is intuitive and easy to understand.

Without further ado, let's get straight to the test. The MUSE laser engraving and cutting speed is very fast; this 30cm hanger can be completed in about 10 minutes.

The wood board used this time was approximately 3mm thick. The laser cutting part was clean and precise, easily separating from the waste material with a light press, and the engraved part was very complete.

The actual laser processing area is approximately 50x30 cm. If larger dimensions are needed, the MUSE can even be used with the base plate detached, breaking free from height and area limitations. For example, an entire door panel can be engraved using a拼接 method. In the picture, you can see a metal honeycomb plate at the bottom, which prevents the laser cutting beam from directly hitting the base plate, similar to the concept of an art cutting mat. It must be placed under the cutting area before use.

We tested the effects of different power levels on wood. The common charring issue can be resolved by adjusting the power speed; since wood naturally contains moisture and oil, high-power laser heating will cause scorch marks. In contrast, using lower power multiple times and completing quickly yields cleaner results.

In addition, testing various materials is essential. We engraved "THIS SIDE UP" in English on the glass plate of the Ultimaker 3D printer, making it easy for engineers to understand at a glance, eliminating the need for additional judgment each time the glass is replaced.

Our colleagues' personal items were conscripted for the frontline. The boss's metal business card holder instantly gained a customized feel after being engraved with the company logo; engraving on dedicated aluminum rulers is also fine, meaning they'll never be lost again.

This MUSE laser processing machine is suitable for various materials such as paper, wood, leather, glass, acrylic, and metal surface engraving. Besides testing different materials, precision is also a major focus of laser processing. We engraved fonts from large to small on both wood and acrylic to compare the different effects.

The font sizes range from 20pt down to 2pt. The smallest font, approximately 0.7mm high, still clearly displays the 3DMart logo, though it's so small that cameras have difficulty focusing. Based on current internal test samples, the quality of the MUSE laser processing machine is more than sufficient for applications. You can also see these samples live at our booth S423 at the 3D Printing Exhibition!

In addition to the demonstrations above, the MUSE laser processing machine can also be equipped with an optional rotary axis accessory, allowing it to engrave curved surfaces like glass cups. Its functions are powerful, diverse, convenient, and practical. More rich demonstration content, including CNC milling machines and vacuum forming machines, has also recently been released!
