The Bambu Lab community has long requested one crucial feature: the ability to offer and purchase commercial licenses through MakerWorld.
Commercial licenses are essential for creators who sell physical prints of 3D models on MakerWorld and for users who purchase them.
This is why Bambu Lab is introducing its Commercial License Membership.
Since the launch of MakerWorld in 2023, many creators have eagerly awaited this moment.
While there are various ways to monetize 3D printed models, for now, Bambu Lab has chosen to make minimal changes and keep the entire database freely accessible for personal use.
Everything you see when browsing or searching can be downloaded without payment or login.
What are the benefits?
Commercial License Membership simplifies how creators offer commercial use licenses and how manufacturers purchase them.
This streamlines the process for those who want to sell physical prints of models downloaded from MakerWorld, while retaining free designs available for personal use.
This enhancement will support the growing community of creators, especially those who previously had to use platforms like Patreon for exclusive model programs for commercial licensing.
Now, everything can be managed in one place.
And for users who need commercial licenses, this means:
A convenient one-stop shop for finding and licensing 3D models.
Clear and transparent licensing terms.
The ability to directly support their favorite creators.
For creators, this new feature
allows them to:
Generate additional income from their designs.
Easily draft commercial licenses using our License Assistant tool.
Build stronger relationships with their subscribers.
How it works
To ensure quality and prevent abuse, creators who wish to establish a commercial membership must have at least 200 followers and 600 works, and no rule violations (excluding bug reports) in the past 90 days.
Established creators on other platforms can contact models@makerworld.com to request an invitation to Bambu Lab's program.
Membership prices are set by individual designers and creators, ranging from $3 to $300 per month.
This monthly subscription system offers creators flexible options for interacting with their community.
This model puts creators in full control of how they reach their audience, with pricing, rewards, and other details entirely up to them.
Funds are transferred directly from subscribers to creators, with a 10% platform fee to support Bambu Lab's development and operation of the community.
Currently, PayPal is the only payment system for this, so both creators and subscribers will need a PayPal account.
You can customize subscription tier names, monthly prices, details of the commercial license itself, and welcome messages for new subscribers.
Additionally, Bambu Lab has also launched a tool called "Commercial License Assistant."
If you are unsure what rights to grant subscribers, you can use this tool to simplify the process of generating a summary of all rights and restrictions for a commercial license.
You still have the option to modify its content by adding, deleting, or editing within the License Assistant.
