【3D Scan News】Geomagic is Magic! From Scan to CAD!

After the release of the new EinScan Pro 2X series scanners, we previously shared a faster and more accurate scanning test (further reading: Challenging a car bumper, scanning and modeling in just 3 minutes!). This time, at the SHINING 3D press conference attended by the 3dmart correspondent, 3D Systems and Siemens collaborated to launch the new integrated software Geomagic Essentials, making it easier than ever to convert 3D scans to CAD.

New Geomagic Essentials Software

So, what are the features of Geomagic Essentials? While the latest 3D scanners can produce high-speed and high-precision imaging, converting these digitally calculated 3D images into CAD for industrial use still requires relatively complex modifications. Geomagic Essentials was developed as bridging software to address this need.

In addition to bridging the gap between 3D scanning and CAD calculations, Geomagic Essentials processes 3D scan images in a way that makes the results compatible with CAD models, allowing for modifications during the scanning process. This connects the entire workflow from 3D scanning to reverse engineering and 3D printing. This feature greatly enhances the convenience of engineering production and can convert 3D scans into mesh systems or surface calculations. Taking a car as an example: for perfectly symmetrical objects, only half of the object needs to be quickly scanned, then converted to CAD calculations and directly mirrored; for tires, the other three can be directly duplicated after a complete 3D scan. Additionally, it has built-in functions for repairing broken surfaces, digging holes, filling gaps, and more.

Solid Edge SHINING 3D Edition

In addition to the new Geomagic Essentials, the original reverse engineering software, Solid Edge SHINING 3D Edition, is of course indispensable. It allows for the use of generative design, simulation, and CAD tools, and its functionality has been improved even further.

Complete Workflow from 3D Scan to CAD

1. Scan the object using EinScan Pro 2X and import the scan data into Geomagic Essentials

2. Select features and NURBS curves

3. Reverse engineer in Solid Edge

This newly released Geomagic Essentials will enable the EinScan Pro 2X /2X Plus series to achieve more comprehensive 3D scanning results and a convenient user experience, allowing industrial applications to save time on product model completion and quickly produce prototypes through 3D printing.
