[The DWS X-FAB review has quietly reached its fourth installment. For those who've forgotten, here's a quick recap:Review PART1,Review PART2,Review PART3]
Many customers want the appearance of their samples to be closer to the final product, or they wish to showcase their designed models in metal.
In the past, casting pure metal objects was a luxury not everyone could afford in terms of cost and time. Now, you have another option!!
After 3D printing your desired object, you can give it a metallic texture through electroplating. Let's take a look at the results below!!!
Do you remember the Xbox controller made with DWS - XFAB from previous articles?
(Material:DWS XFAB Photopolymer Resin - Invicta 915 (ABS-like))
(Layer thickness: 0.1mm)

The SLA-printed product has a perfect surface finish, and its smooth exterior allows for direct painting and electroplating without any post-processing.
If using FDM, the surface can also be smoothed with putty and sanding before proceeding.

After silver plating, the shiny surface gives the object a more futuristic feel, and the increased overall weight makes it more satisfying to hold!

The strong reflection even allows the object to be used as a mirror. You won't have to worry about your mom ganking you from behind while gaming (

There's a wide variety of metals available for electroplating, and among them, zinc offers the most versatile patterns. After electroplating, the surface will be a very shiny silvery-white, and by spraying transparent colored paint, it can be transformed into different metallic colors.

For example, our controller backplate was sprayed with yellow transparent paint to give it a golden metallic look. You can spray any color you like, making it easy and fun!
